About Riviera Sound ....
We are one of the West Country’s leading ladies four-part harmony choruses, a vibrant and successful group for women of all ages who love to sing. We are based in the beautiful English Riviera in South Devon.
Riviera Sound was set up in September 2004 after receiving National Lottery funding. Dave and Christine Bullen, founder members of this progressive singing group, have been involved with harmony singing for the past thirty years. Both are ex-members of gold medal winning choruses in national competitions and Chris is a bronze medallist, as part of a quartet, in the ladies national championship. Our chorus has grown under the inspiring leadership of Chris, our Musical Director.
Always attracting an appreciative and engaging crowd, in competitions our professionalism and entertainment value is praised. Combining all this with slick moves, our enthusiasm and genuine enjoyment of singing shines through. Our members work in diverse jobs: nursing, tourism, taxation and the education sector. We are proud to be the winners of the Torbay Festival Ladies Barbershop Competition in 2009 and the Devon Performing Arts Festival in 2011, 2014 and 2015.
We gained international recognition after performances in Ireland, Wales and an appearance at a local celebrity wedding led to interest from the Spanish and Japanese media.
Our chorus meets weekly, rehearsing our ever-expanding repertoire. If you would like to come and see us you are very welcome to visit us during a rehearsal or check our ‘Events’ section for details of future public performances. Our weekly rehearsals combine exercises to develop the voice range, tonal quality and breath control, with learning new music, polishing repertoire songs and practising visual performance and choreography.
If you’re interested in joining Riviera Sound please contact us on the link below and come along to a rehearsal. All we ask is that you have the ability to sing in tune with a pleasant, straight tone (no vibrato) and that you are prepared to enjoy yourself!
The ability to read music is not essential as music files are provided to help you learn your voice part. We are always looking for new ladies to join us (aged 16 or over) so if you want to give singing in a chorus a try then we would love to meet you.
If after visiting us you decide to join us, you will be asked to sing a simple song, supported by current members, as an audition.
